Arc Flash test blows away the competition for IRISS and their next generation IR window

IRISS has recently announced impressive results for the IEC62271-200 arc flash test performed with their new CAP-ENV IR Windows. designed for the most environmentally demanding electrical maintenance conditions.

IRISS’ New CAP-ENV-12-IR Window

IRISS, is a leader in the design and manufacture of Electrical Maintenance Safety Devices (EMSD) and known for their innovative state-of-the-art Infrared, patented (IR) Window solutions that allow thermal imaging inspections of energized electrical equipment whilst the panels remain in an enclosed and guarded condition.

A European switchgear manufacturer had performed several unsuccessful arc flash containment tests on traditional crystal windows that are currently found in the marketplace, after these unsuccessful tests, the client contacted IRISS and requested an IR Window that would fit their need for an industrial window that would be environmentally durable and adhere to IP67 for transformer and Metalclad switchgear applications. To meet this IRISS created the CAP-ENV System, an innovative industrial IR window that could withstand harsh environmental conditions, offering a durable transparent polymer lens that allows visual, UV, and infrared IR inspections to be completed whilst the panel remains in an enclosed and guarded condition.

IRISS’ VPT-100, CAP-ENV-6 and CAP-ENV-12 went under intense testing. The Arc flash test was performed in Poland, and the results were just down right impressive, the IR Windows were Arc Flash tested in line with the requirements of IEC62271-200 (1KV -50KV metal enclosed switchgear) at 6KV, 31.7kA, for 1.1 seconds, (was twice as long as standard tests). All the IRISS products successfully passed this extreme test.

Due to the results of these tests, multiple projects have been awarded to IRISS, the new VPT and CAP-ENV Series are being installed in areas that experience high environmental distress, such as dockyards, transformer applications and in harsh maritime conditions as well as dessert environments. Unlike Crystal Based IR windows the IRISS VPT and CAP-ENV Systems are the only visual and IR windows that are Impact resistant, maintain a fixed and stable IR transmission and offer the largest FOV (field of view) of any IR window available today. The IRISS’ VPT and CAP-ENV Series are by far the strongest most durable IR Window systems available on the market today.
